Sodium Stearate

Sodium Stearate comes from Stearic Acid & is the most common fatty acid salt in today’s soaps. Common sources of stearic acid, are vegetable triglycerides obtained from coconut and palm oils and animal triglycerides from tallow.

Besides being a major soap component, sodium stearate is used as an additive in other cosmetic products to form solid “stick” shapes. Stearic acid effectively stabilizes, thickens, and softens, helping to create a cooling sensation when moisturizer or ointment is applied to the skin. It also lends a smooth, pearl-like finish to lubricants.
