ALL DEODORANT INGREDIENTS
Di Propylene Glycol
Di-propylene Glycol is a type of alcohol that is used in cosmetics and skincare products to improve the texture and stability of the formulation. It is mainly used as a solvent, viscosity-decreasing agent, masking agent, and fragrance ingredient. Simply put, ‘glycol’ is a term for any organic compound belonging to the alcohol family. This ingredient is safe with an “industry standard” notification of “low toxicity” which has earned it an unjustified warning on many sites. This misconception comes from its uses outside of the skincare industry. Like many chemically altered products used in the cosmetics industry, the nasty ingredients that cause harm are removed. Glycols are a broad class of chemicals and they are not created equal. While some of the glycols may be undesirable in personal care products, Di-Propylene Glycol is considered to be safe and effective. But as always, you need to make that decision for yourself, what your body can tolerate or what you prefer to use.
Witch Hazel
Witch Hazel is made from the bark and leaves of the witch hazel shrub, Hamamelis virginiana. It is high in tannins, a polyphenol that may reduce inflammation in the skin and works to combat free radicals with its antioxidant properties. Free radicals are produced by a process called oxidative stress. Free radicals are produced through UV rays, smoking, diet, and pollution. Free radicals may damage the skin, DNA, and collagen. Witch hazel is a good source of flavonoid compounds. Flavonoids are antioxidants that can have a positive effect on all layers of the skin. It is considered to be an astringent, meaning it causes body tissue to contract. An astringent works by constricting the blood vessels or the pores under the surface of the skin. The ability to minimize tissues makes products with this extract a viable option to shrink pores and possibly get rid of acne. Witch hazel’s natural soothing and antibacterial properties may help to support the skin’s wound-healing process.
C12-15 Alkyl Benzoate
C12-15 Alkyl Benzoate is a low molecular weight ester of benzoic acid and long-chain alcohols. Benzoic Acid is a natural ingredient that can be obtained from several types of fruits and vegetables, such as cranberries, prunes, plums, cinnamon, ripe cloves, and apples. The ‘C12-15’ in the ingredient name indicates that the alcohols have carbon chain lengths from 12 to 15. It’s mainly used to improve the stability, texture, and scent of products.
Sodium Stearate
Sodium Stearate comes from Stearic Acid & is the most common fatty acid salt in today’s soaps. Common sources of stearic acid, are vegetable triglycerides obtained from coconut and palm oils and animal triglycerides from tallow. Besides being a major soap component, sodium stearate is used as an additive in other cosmetic products to form solid “stick” shapes. Stearic acid effectively stabilizes, thickens, and softens, helping to create a cooling sensation when moisturizer or ointment is applied to the skin. It also lends a smooth, pearl-like finish to lubricants.
Vegetable Glycerin
It is well known that Glycerin can form a defensive layer between your skin and the environment, making it good for conditions like eczema or acne. These issues often result in extreme itchiness, so glycerin can reduce the sensation of itchiness and thus prevent additional inflammation, Due to its humectant properties, any topical substance that contains glycerin will help to keep the skin hydrated, as it attracts moisture, and is used to lessen the appearance of scars.
Olivem 300
Olivem300 is a naturally-derived cold process emulsifier based on olive oil chemistry. It is a functional lipid with sebum-recovering activities. This means it delivers and sustains skin hydration. It is an ester with strong emollient and lubricant properties that offers distinctive skin smoothness and long-term moisturizing effects. It serves as a solubilizing aid for essential oils. It is environmentally friendly because its majority composition is nature-derived ingredients.
Silver Citrate and Citric Acid
Silver Citrate or Colloidal Silver, (in Citric Acid solution) is a solution of water containing nanometre-sized particles of suspended silver. The total silver content is expressed as milligrams of silver per liter of water, or mg/L, which is numerically the same as parts per million (ppm). Silver naturally holds onto oxygen molecules, which readily react with & break down bacteria and viruses. It’s an excellent natural antibacterial and antimicrobial. A stimulant for healing skin and other soft tissues and a potent anti-fungal. Colloidal silver benefits many skin conditions, including psoriasis and eczema & a fantastic anti-inflammatory. It’s soothing to scrapes and even repairs tissue damage from burns.
Magnesium Chloride
Magnesium Chloride is a type of salt that consists of one magnesium atom and two chloride atoms. Magnesium is required by almost every cell in our body and is especially important to cells in our muscles. Just some of the benefits Magnesium Chloride bring to our skin and body:
• Reduce inflammation in the skin
• Remove toxins and heavy metals at a cellular level
• Improve circulation and blood flow
• Soothe skin conditions like eczema, acne, psoriasis, and dermatitis
• Improve skin hydration
Bifida Ferment Extract
Bifidus Ferment extract is a natural probiotic and is used in skin care because it helps repair signs of damage (redness, irritation, breakouts) to the skin’s moisture barrier. Adding microorganisms like bacteria to other skincare ingredients releases enzymes that break down the molecules in the raw material and lead to the creation of new substances that benefit your skin. Some natural raw ingredients contain toxic substances like heavy metals and pesticides that irritate the skin. The fermentation process neutralizes these substances, making the product safer, more effective, and suitable for sensitive skin types. On top of that, fermentation using yeast can lead to the creation of special substances that prevent the generation of harmful microorganisms (as in sweat), which further reduces the chances of skin damage. This process gives rise to new amino acids, organic acids, and antioxidants to help hydrate and nourish the skin.
Trusoft Decalact
INCI: Sodium Lauroyl Lactylate, Triethyl Citrate, Salvia Officinalis Oil
Trusoft Decalact is a natural deodorant active blend with antimicrobial properties. Shows clinically proven 24h deodorant activity and it is highly effective against microorganisms causing body odour. The probiotic substances in Trusoft aid in the inhibition of microorganisms that manufacture materials resulting in body odours. The outcome can sometimes have an inti-perspiring effect, as the body is less likely to feel the need to detox that area due to those microorganisms’ inhibition to procreate.
Vitamin E
Vitamin E is both a nutrient and antioxidant with a history of use in dermatology for over 50 years. Scientific research has shown it benefits a number of common skin concerns including burns, scars, and wounds. As an antioxidant, vitamin E is known to help fight free radicals. Studies have shown that when used topically, it can also act as a protectant from skin damage due to sun exposure.
Clay - Pink/Green/White
Renowned for its many health and skincare benefits, Clays contains high amounts of mineral including mineral oxides, magnesium, calcium, potassium, dolomite, silica, manganese, phosphorous, silicon, copper, and selenium. They are excellent sebum absorbers, that help stimulate blood circulation to the surface of the skin. A great antioxidant that not only nourishes the skin and scalp, but it has powerful anti-inflammatory and antiseptic properties. It’s highly absorptive, promotes cell regeneration, and triggers the skin’s ability to heal itself. The clay also helps purify the skin layers, eliminating toxins and environmental pollutants that speed up the aging process of the skin.
Germall Plus
Germall Plus is a preservative. This family of preservatives delivers efficient anti-microbial power to a wide variety of personal care products. Balanced, synergistic, and boasting broad-spectrum protection. Sadly, there are no “natural” alternatives to synthetic preservatives. The ingredients undergo chemical alterations & extensive manipulation in order to extract and harvest those preserving benefits (Click HERE for more on this). When water is present in any product used for topical application, broad-spectrum preservation is very important! The alternative is for the product to be refrigerated and used within 3-4 days. Germall Plus is a paraben-free preservative and provides for complete, broad-spectrum preservation against Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria, yeast, mold, and fungi and it is effective in very low amounts. While active ingredients in skin care bring benefits and health to your skin, preservatives do the same for the lotions themselves.
I have done extensive research into what is regarded as safe for our skin and what is considered harmful. The ingredients that makeup Germall Plus, although synthetic have been tested and have passed international standards including European ones (The cosmetic industry is highly regulated over there and ingredients are “approved” based on their safety profile).
